Rhodes Summer 2007: Embona

Empona or Embona(s) (Έμπωνα) is a mountainous village (1250 inhabitants), halfway up the Attavyros, a gray rocky mountain of 1215 m height. On top you'll find a tempel of Zeus. The village is the centre of wine industry on Rhodes and attracts many tourist daytrips. In the second photograph you can see a house built of clay. Every layer of clay needed to dry in the sun, hoping that the clay would dry enough so it would not collapse eventually. No people live in this house anymore.
