Tilburg Summer 2007: Publication Zoom.nl Magazine - Nr. 06 sept/okt 2007

On the first pages you can see me working in the field, in Leijpark Tilburg. Here is where I made some of the previous photographs with the subject "Tilburg Summer 2007: Leijpark and zoom.nl" on this blogsite. While I was photographing, photographer Milan Vermeulen of Zoom.nl magazine made some portraits of me.


The following page shows two of my nature photographs of (1) a juvenile Great Horned Owl during the photoworkshop at the residence of birds @ work in Berkel and Rodenrijs and of (2) raindrops falling into a big rain pool at the rooftop of my neighbours at my former student house in the Jan Aartestraat in Tilburg.

Tilburg Summer 2007: Orthoceras in Macro

Orthoceras ("straight horn") is a genus of extinct cephalopod. This genus is sometimes called Orthoceratites. Fossils are common and have been found on many continents, including the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia. They are dated to the lower Ordovician to Triassic ages (500 to 190 million years ago).

Tilburg Summer 2007: Agate geode in Macro

Agate geode with a lot of cristals. Geodes (Greek geoides, "earthlike") are geological rock formations which occur in sedimentary and certain volcanic rocks. Geodes are essentially rock cavities or vugs with internal crystal formations or concentric banding. The exterior of the most common geodes is generally limestone or a related rock, while the interior contains quartz crystals and/or chalcedony deposits.

Tilburg Summer 2007: Trilobite in Macro

Trilobites are extinct arthropods that form the class Trilobita. They appeared in the 2nd Epoch of the Cambrian period and flourished throughout the lower Paleozoic era before beginning a drawn-out decline to extinction when, during the Late Devonian extinction, all trilobite orders, with the sole exception of Proetida, died out. The last of the trilobites disappeared in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian about 250 million years ago.

The trilobite in the photograph is about 350 million years old. The fossil was found in Erfoud, Marocco.
